G li idoli sono come spauracchi in un campo di cocomeri, e non parlano; bisogna portarli, perché non possono camminare. Non li temete! perché non possono fare nessun male, e non è in loro potere di fare del bene».

They are like a palm-tree, of turned work, and speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither is it in them to do good.
