I n ogni caso di delitto, sia che si tratti di un bue o di un asino o di una pecora o di un vestito o di qualunque oggetto perduto del quale uno dica: “È questo qui!”, la causa delle due parti verrà davanti a Dio; colui che Dio condannerà, restituirà il doppio al suo prossimo.

For all manner of trespass, whether it be for ox, for ass, for sheep, for raiment, or for any manner of lost thing which another challengeth to be his, the cause of both parties shall come before the judges; and whom the judges shall condemn, he shall pay double unto his neighbour.
