t hen they would say to him, “Then say, ‘Shibboleth’!” And he would say, “Sibboleth,” for he could not pronounce it right. Then they would take him and kill him at the fords of the Jordan. There fell at that time forty-two thousand Ephraimites.

atunci îi ziceau:,, Ei bine, zi Şibolet.`` Şi el zicea:,, Sibolet``, căci nu putea să -l spună bine. Atunci bărbaţii Galaadului îl apucau, şi -l jungheau lîngă vadurile Iordanului. Astfel au pierit în vremea aceea patruzeci şi două de mii de bărbaţi din Efraim.
