T hen Johanan the son of Kareah spoke secretly to Gedaliah in Mizpah, saying, “Let me go, please, and I will kill Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no one will know it. Why should he murder you, so that all the Jews who are gathered to you would be scattered, and the remnant in Judah perish?”

Giô-ha-nan, con trai Ca-rê-át, bèn nói kín cùng Ghê-đa-lia tại Mích-ba rằng: Xin cho tôi đi, tôi sẽ giết Ích-ma-ên, con trai Nê-tha-nia, mà không ai biết hết. Làm sao để nó cất lấy mạng sống ông, hầu cho mọi người Giu-đa nhóm họp xung quanh ông sẽ tan lạc, và dân sót của Giu-đa chết mất?
