B ut the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb which he had bought and nourished; and it grew up together with him and with his children. It ate of his own food and drank from his own cup and lay in his bosom; and it was like a daughter to him.

Cel sărac însă nu avea altceva decât o mieluşea pe care o cumpărase. Avea grijă de ea, iar aceasta creştea împreună cu el şi cu copiii săi. Mânca din aceeaşi bucată de pâine cu el, bea din cana lui şi dormea la pieptul său; îi era ca o fiică.
