C omo ni el sol ni las estrellas aparecieron por muchos días, y una tempestad no pequeña se abatía sobre nosotros, desde entonces fuimos abandonando toda esperanza de salvarnos.

And when neither sun nor stars were visible for many days and no small tempest kept raging about us, all hope of our being saved was finally abandoned.
