F or when God made the promise to Abraham, since He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself,

لَمّا قَطَعَ اللهُ وَعداً لإبراهِيْمَ أقْسَمَ بِنَفسِهِ، إذْ لَيْسَ هُناكَ مَنْ هُوَ أعظَمُ مِنْهُ فَيُقسِمَ بِهِ.
