K ia wha tekau ana whakapanga ki a ia, kaua e maha ake: he mea hoki, ki te tuhene, a ka maha atu i enei nga whakapanga, na ka iti tou teina ki tau titiro.

Forty stripes he may give him, and not exceed: lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy brother should seem vile unto thee.
