I haere atu te kairui ki te rui i tana purapura: a, i a ia e rui ana, ka ngahoro etahi ki te taha o te ara; a takahia ana ki raro, kainga ake e nga manu o te rangi.

A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.
