M e i tae he kaitahae ki a koe, he kaipahua ranei i te po, taukiri e, tou ngaromanga! e kore ranei ratou e tahae, kia maha ra ano nga mea ma ratou? me i tae he kaiwhawhaki karepe ki a koe, e kore ranei etahi karepe e whakatoea e ratou?

If thieves came to thee, if robbers by night, (how art thou cut off!) would they not have stolen till they had enough? if the grapegatherers came to thee, would they not leave some grapes?
