K i te kainga hoki e tetahi te mea i mate maori, te mea ranei i haea e te kirehe, ahakoa tangata whenua, iwi ke ranei, me horoi ona kakahu, me ia ano me horoi ki te wai, ka poke hoki a ahiahi noa: katahi ka kore te poke.

And every soul that eateth of a dead carcase, or of that which was torn, be it one home-born, or a stranger, he shall wash his clothes, and bathe in water, and be unclean until the even: then he shall be clean.
