K ei roto hoki i te toto te oranga o te kikokiko; kua hoatu ano e ahau ki a koutou mo runga i te aata, hei whakamarie mo o koutou wairua: ko te toto hoki, na tona ora, te mea hei whakamarie.

For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement.’
