I mua i a ratou ko te ahi e kai ana, i muri i a ratou ko te mura e ngiha ana; ko te whenua i mua i a ratou me te mea ko te kari o Erene, a i muri i a ratou he koraha ururua; ae ra, kahore he mea i puta i a ratou.

A fire devoureth before them, and behind them a flame burneth; the land is as a garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness: yea, and nothing escapeth them.
