N a ka mea atu nga rangatira ki te kingi, Me whakamate tenei tangata; ma tana penei hoki ka ngoikore ai nga ringa o nga tangata whawhai e toe ana ki te pa nei, me nga ringa o te iwi katoa, ma tana korero i enei tu kupu ki a ratou: kahore hoki tene i tangata i te rapu i te pai mo tenei iwi, engari i te kino.

Then the princes said unto the king, Let this man, we pray thee, be put to death; forasmuch as he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them: for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt.
