K ua oti hoki matou, ahau me toku iwi, te hoko kia whakangaromia, kia whakamatea, kia huna. Otiia me i hokona matou hei pononga tane, hei pononga wahine, kua whakarongo puku ahau: e kore ano ia e rite i te hoariri nga mea a te kingi ka maumauria n ei.

For we have been sold, my people and I, to be destroyed, to be killed, and to be annihilated. Had we been sold as male and female slaves, I would have held my tongue, although the enemy could never compensate for the king’s loss.”
