L a joie et l'allégresse ont disparu des campagnes; Dans les vignes, plus de chants, plus de réjouissances! Le vendangeur ne foule plus le vin dans les cuves; J'ai fait cesser les cris de joie.

Happiness and joy are taken away from the field that gives much fruit. No songs are sung in the grape-fields. No one crushes grapes to make wine, for I have stopped the cry of joy.
