G li uomini di Galaad si impadronirono dei guadi del Giordano prima che quei di Efraim arrivassero; così, quando uno dei fuggiaschi di Efraim diceva: «Lasciatemi passare», gli uomini di Galaad gli chiedevano: «Sei tu un Efraimita?». Se quegli rispondeva: «No», i Galaaditi gli dicevano:
