C osí si avvicinarono al re e parlarono davanti a lui del decreto reale: «Non hai tu firmato un decreto in base al quale chiunque durante trenta giorni farà una richiesta a qualsiasi dio o uomo all'infuori di te, o re, sarebbe gettato nella fossa dei leoni?». Il re rispose e disse: «La cosa è stabilita in conformità alla legge dei Medi e dei Persiani, che non può essere alterata».


Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king's interdict: Hast thou not signed an interdict, that every man that shall make petition unto any god or man within thirty days, save unto thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
