M a il popolo rispose: «Tu non devi venire, perché se noi fossimo messi in fuga, non darebbero alcuna importanza a noi; anche se morisse la metà di noi non darebbero alcuna importanza a noi; ma tu conti come diecimila di noi; è meglio dunque che tu sia pronto a darci aiuto dalla città».

But the people said, Thou shalt not go forth: for if we flee away, they will not care for us; neither if half of us die, will they care for us: but thou art worth ten thousand of us; therefore now it is better that thou be ready to succor us out of the city.
