T hen said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.

Ако човекът отговореше: Не съм, тогава му казваха: Кажи Шиболет, а той казваше: Сиболет, защото не можеше да го произнесе правилно. Тогава го хващаха и го обезглавяваха при бродовете на Йордан. И в онова време загинаха от Ефрем четиридесет и две хиляди души.
