S o were all those that were numbered of the sons of Israel, by the houses of their fathers, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war in Israel;

All the men of Israel were numbered by their fathers’ houses, twenty years old and older, whoever in Israel was able to go out to war.
