ك انَ داوُدُ مِنْ أبناءِ يَسَّى مِنْ عائِلَةِ أفراتَةَ فِي بَيتَ لَحْمَ فِي يَهُوذا. وَكانَ لِيَسَّى ثَمانِيَةُ أبناءٍ. وَكانَ يَسَّى طاعِناً فِي السِّنِّ فِي عَهدِ شاوُلَ.
