و َفَعَلَ بَنُو إسْرائِيلَ الشَّرَّ أمامَ اللهِ ، إذْ عَبَدُوا البَعلَ،

Then the people of Israel sinned in the eyes of the Lord. They served the Baals, the gods of the Canaanites.
