ل َكِنْ عِندَما هَيَّئُوهُ لِلجَلْدِ، قالَ بُولُسُ لِلضّابِطِ الواقِفِ هُناكَ: «هَلْ يُجِيزُ لَكُمُ القانُونُ أنْ تَجلِدُوا مُواطِناً رُومانِيّاً لَمْ تَثبُتْ عَلَيهِ تُهمَةٌ؟»
