A nd Pilate, seeing that it availed nothing, but that rather a tumult was arising, having taken water, washed his hands before the crowd, saying, I am guiltless of the blood of this righteous one: see ye.

Pilato, vedendo che non otteneva nulla ma che si sollevava un tumulto, prese dell’acqua e si lavò le mani in presenza della folla, dicendo: «Io sono innocente di questo sangue; pensateci voi».
