A s soon as Gideon was dead, the Israelites turned again and played the harlot after the Baals and made Baal-berith their god.

وَما إنْ ماتَ جِدْعُونُ حَتَّى تَراجَعَ بَنُو إسْرائِيلَ، وَخانُوا اللهَ بِأنْ عَبَدُوا البَعلَ. وَاتَّخَذُوا مِنْ بَعلِ بَرِيثَ إلَهاً لَهُمْ.
