T hey said to him, Then say Shibboleth; and he said, Sibboleth, for he could not pronounce it right. Then they seized him and slew him at the fords of the Jordan. And there fell at that time 42, 000 of the Ephraimites.

«Ebbene, di’ Scibbolet »; e quello diceva: «Sibbolet», senza fare attenzione a pronunciare bene; allora lo afferravano e lo scannavano presso i guadi del Giordano. Perirono in quel tempo quarantaduemila Efraimiti.
