F orty stripes may be given him but not more, lest, if he should be beaten with many stripes, your brother should seem low and worthless to you.

عَلَى ألّا يَزِيدَ عَدَدُ الجَلْداتِ عَنْ أربَعِينَ. فَإنْ جَلَدُوهُ أكثَرَ، يَكُونُ ذَلِكَ إهانَةً عَلَنِيَّةً.
