N ow the chief priests and the entire council (the Sanhedrin) were constantly seeking testimony against Jesus with a view to condemning Him and putting Him to death, but they did not find any.

Now the chief priests and the whole Council kept trying to obtain testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, and they were not finding any.
