I n his days, Hiel the Bethelite built Jericho. He laid its foundations at the cost of the life of Abiram his firstborn, and set up its gates with the loss of his youngest son Segub, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke through Joshua son of Nun.

În timpul domniei lui, Hiel din Betel a rezidit Ierihonul; i-a pus temeliile cu preţul întâiului său născut, Abiram, şi i-a aşezat porţile cu preţul lui Segub, cel mai tânăr dintre fiii săi, potrivit cuvântului rostit de Domnul prin Iosua, fiul lui Nun.
