A nd Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the Lord be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt? but now the Lord hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.

Ghedeon I-a răspuns: – Nu te supăra, domnule, dar dacă Domnul este cu noi atunci de ce ni s-au întâmplat toate acestea? Şi unde sunt toate minunile pe care ni le-au istorisit părinţii noştri când ziceau: „Nu ne-a scos Domnul din Egipt?“ Dar acum Domnul ne-a părăsit şi ne-a dat în mâna midianiţilor.
