F or he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which smote him: and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.

A jertfit zeilor Damascului, cei care l-au înfrânt, deoarece el spusese: „Zeii regilor din Aram i-au ajutat pe aceştia, deci le voi jertfi şi eu ca să mă ajute şi pe mine!“ Însă tocmai aceşti zei au fost cauza pierzării lui şi a întregului Israel.
