M andou, porém, Jeoás, rei de Israel, dizer a Amazias, rei de Judá: O cardo que estava no Líbano mandou dizer ao cedro que estava no Líbano: Dá tua filha por mulher a meu filho. Mas uma fera que estava no Líbano passou e pisou o cardo.

And Jehoash king of Israel sendeth unto Amaziah king of Judah, saying, `The thorn that in Lebanon hath sent unto the cedar that in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son for a wife; and pass by doth a beast of the field that in Lebanon, and treadeth down the thorn.
