D a antwortete der Verkündiger und sprach: Israel ist geflohen vor den Philistern, und ist eine große Schlacht im Volk geschehen, und deine zwei Söhne, Hophni und Pinehas, sind gestorben; dazu die Lade Gottes ist genommen.

He who brought the news answered, “Israel has fled before the Philistines, and there has been also a great slaughter among the people. Your two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and God’s ark has been captured.”
